It’s almost time for the Academy Awards. The Oscar nominations were announced earlier this week (that list can be found at http://oscar.go.com/nominees ), and there’s a lot of buzz about who’s going to win what.

The best picture category looks as if it’s going to be a fight between “La La Land” and “Arrival.” Neither is a surprise, since both have been talked about often in very good light.

“La La Land” looks as if it’s slightly favored to win in the best picture category, and it definitely should win, as critics and regular moviegoers alike have said nothing but good things about the film since its release.

Casey Affleck seems to have best actor in the bag, but I think Andrew Garfield should win. Affleck, star of “Manchester by the Sea,” is being sued for sexual harassment, and Garfield showed how great an actor he really is in “Hacksaw Ridge.”

Emma Stone is favored to win best actress for “La La Land,” and she should. She’s a proven, great actress who brings a lot to her films.

Mahershala Ali has the odds in his favor to win best supporting actor (for “Moonlight”), but I’d like to see Dev Patel (“Lion”) win this one, as he usually gives his all in every role he’s given.

Viola Davis (“Fences”) leads the pack for supporting actress, but I think it could become a close race between her and Octavia Spencer (“Hidden Figures”), as both are incredibly powerful forces on screen.

In the animated movie category, “Zootopia” is definitely the favorite. But I’d like to see “Kubo and the Two Strings” beat out the Disney flick, since Disney dominates the animated movie category year after year. A changeup would be nice.

This year’s Oscars are sure to be good. They will be televised Feb. 26.
