With baseball season just a few days away, video game creator San Diego Studios just released the much anticipated MLB The Show 17, the 12th installment to the series.

Immediately, as gamers enter the game, the roar of the crowds and the iconic voices from the likes of Matt Vasgersian and Harold Reynolds, via MLB Network, are clearly heard. It takes the gaming experience to a whole different level.

The lighting of the game has been improved drastically. Yes, it may not be the most exciting feature, but it’s what makes the game that much better. Once in the game, you realize how real the ballpark really is. For the night games, you might as well be in game 7 of the World Series.

Another feature that’s worth mentioning, is how the creators reduced the robotic actions of the players. The basic problems in catching a fly ball, or fielding a grounder have been eliminated, giving a more realistic and fluid play. Even more complicated animations have been added such as the outfield celebrations at the end of the game. These features just make it look like the players are actually having fun.

Probably the most anticipated new feature to the game is the addition of the “Road to the Show” mode. For those who don’t know what it is, you create a player who gets drafted from one of the 30 teams. From there, you make your way through the minors to get up to “The Show.” The additions this year add whole story to the idea, showing the little things a player would go through on their way to the majors, such as phone calls from when you get drafted to the day you get called up.

Overall, the additions to this year’s MLB The Show 17, have been overwhelming through additions and improvements to several of the game modes. All of the new features create a very authentic experience and make the game a must buy for the season.
