Spring is here, and so is warmer weather. It’s a good time to get outside and enjoy fresh air. But for many of us, it’s hard to get away from our phones. Technology is great, but it’s also sooooo addicting.

We asked a few Bullard students how much time they spend on their phones every day, and how they would feel about spending less time on their phones and more time in the real world. Some of their responses:

Junior Christa Quijano: “I use my phone throughout the day, so I would say about 12 hours, but it’s not like 12 hours straight. I do wish I could spend more time outdoors, but if I don’t, it’s mainly because of technology. I have put my phone away when I have to study for a test or whatnot. I usually store my phone away so that I am not tempted to procrastinate.”

Freshman Samuel Solorio: “I use my phone about six hours a day, because my parents are really strict about technology and how it affects you and your knowledge. I haven’t necessarily put my phone away on my own will, but when my parents are around, I use it more carefully. Another reason why I would stay off my phone is whenever I have friends around.”

Freshman Gabriel Garcia: “I hardly use my phone because of the way it affects me at school. I only use it when it’s something important, like making a phone call. I would say I only use my phone about 3-4 hours a day, but nothing past that.”

Based on our interviews, it seems clear that kids should spend less time on their phone. It can prove to be distracting when school is involved or when you’re simply enjoying someone’s company.
