NFL Draft Day One Recap
May 1, 2015
Day one of the 2015 NFL draft is over and there were solid picks in this year’s draft.
The biggest story of the night was the Tampa Bay Buccaneers selecting Jameis Winston as the number one overall pick to be their quarterback of the future. Tampa was not the only team to go after a quarterback, as the Tennessee Titans drafted Heisman winner Marcus Mariota out of Oregon. Both teams were very shaky at the position and now have what they believe is someone that can lead them to a super bowl.
In my mind, the most surprising pick of the night was the St. Louis Rams drafting Todd Gurley. The Rams could use help in many positions, but I just don’t see how a running back is one of them. Gurley is a terrific athlete but I don’t think the Rams are the best fit for him. Speaking of running backs, running back Melvin Gordon out of Wisconsin was drafted to the San Diego Chargers. I believe Gordon got the better scenario then Gurley did, and I believe the former Badger will have a much bigger impact during his rookie season.
The wide receiver position got some love with big names like Amari Cooper and Kevin White being drafted in the top 10. Cooper was Drafted by the Raiders as the fourth pick and will be an instant number one receiver for Derek Carr. The Chicago Bears drafting Kevin White was a bit of a question mark for me. Not that I think that he wont be good, I actually think he will be a solid weapon for Jay Cutler, but I just don’t think a receiver was what Chicago needed to spend their first round pick on.
The 2015 NFL draft got off to an interesting start. This is one of the best parts of the draft, and it was only the first day. I did not go over the entire first round, you can find the full first round recap at NFL.com. Stay tuned for day two!
