Ms. Lucas is a new freshman English teacher at Bullard who loves short stories, the “Twilight” series, and ice cream. She attended California State University, Fresno, and is enjoying Bullard because the kids are high-spirited.
Q. What do you like about Bullard so far?
A. How widespread the culture is – that’s pretty cool – and how everyone goes to all the football games. I remember my first football game here. I didn’t think anyone would be there but to my surprise a lot of people were there in their blue and white supporting Bullard.
Q. What’s your favorite novel?
A. “Twilight,” because the imagery is really good. The idea that not all vampires are put to kill you is a new idea.
Q. What’s your favorite genre of books?
A. I like short stories. My favorite is kind of creepy. It’s called A Sound of Thunder about time travel and how if you change one thing, the present will be all messed up. And non-fiction books: I love reading people’s biographies. My favorite biography is Maya Angelou’s.
Q. What do you like doing in your free time?
A. Eating. I love food. Food is life. I don’t really have a favorite dish, but my favorite food is ice cream, because it fits, and it’s not really unhealthy. Besides eating, I like taking zumba classes and of course reading.
Q. Where were you born?
A. Santa Clara.
Q. What high school did you attend?
A. A shabby little high school called Manteca High. Its mascot was depressing. It was a buffalo.
Q. If a knight and a buffalo got into a fight, who do you think would win?
A. A knight, obviously. A Buffalo was a terrible mascot.
Q. What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a teacher?
A. Do it! Everyone should have teachers that never give up on them and give them the best school experience that they could have. Everyone should have influential teachers.
