The fact that there is a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie came as a bit of a surprise. The last one, On Stranger Tides, came out in 2011. But the trailer for the new one, Dead Men Tell No Tales, generated a lot of excitement.

I was not among those who was thrilled. I was expecting the movie to stink, based off the trailer. But 10 minutes into the movie, I started to change my opinion.

Although Dead Men Tell No Tales doesn’t reconnect to the last movie, it does tie into the ones before that. I thought that would be another reason why I wouldn’t like it, since it didn’t look related to the last movie’s new cast. But after watching it, I completely changed my opinion in a positive way.

Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) finds himself on the run again, trying to get away from the evil Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), who is cursed along with his pirate crew.

Besides Sparrow and Salazar, there are Captain Hector Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush), Carina Smyth (Kaya Scodelario), and Henry Turner (Brenton Thwaites). Sparrow, Henry and Carina seek to recover the Trident of Poseidon, which breaks all curses in the sea.

The movie requires close attention to catch the small details and mini-plot twists, which keep the audience on its toes with surprises in every scene. There were many inside jokes and pop-ups. Quick warning: There also are a few brutal scenes throughout the movie for anyone that is a bit squirmy about blood or anything related to it. The movie earns its PG-13 rating.

The movie was fantastic. It has a good story that will deeply attract the attention of anyone, so I highly recommend going out and seeing Dead Men Tell No Tales. Even if you haven’t watched any of the Pirates movies, this is something you would enjoy watching with friends or family.
