Two mountain bikers named S.J. Brooks and Isaac Sederbaum went mountain biking in the woods of Washington state when they spotted a big mountain lion, a cougar. A cougar had been following them since they arrived there. They created loud noises and even threw their bicycles at the animal to scare it away, but nothing worked. The cougar was still following them and then soon jumped on Sederbaum and started to maul him, the animal even had him head in his jaw and kept shaking him around. Brooks, the other rider got off his bike and ran away, catching the cougar attention which lead it to chase Brooks and attacked him also. Sederbaum got on his bike and successfully ran away to get help. He was taken to Harborview Medical center in Seattle where he was let to rest and heal. The fire and sheriff department found Brooks brutally murdered by the cougar.

The cougar is a very dangerous animal to encounter at anytime anywhere. Many say that cougars don’t really attack humans and some say they hunt at night, but a cougar just happened to attack two mountain bikers all in one day,  and because of that some think the big lion is abnormal. Maybe it just had a disease or may have been injured, but those are some of the ways of how it can behaved so violently.

Many of the attacks have happened in Washington state by cougars in the past century. The first fatal attack occurred in the 1920s, a boy named Jimmy Fehlhaber was devoured by a male cougar. In the later years the human population has moved to rural areas and started to develop and become in contact more often.

If you encounter a cougar, don’t run because the animal’s instinct is to chase. Instead, authorities advise people to never take your eyes off the animal and to appear larger and more intimidating. Shout, wave your arms, throw rocks and/or anything to let the animal know that you’re a threat and not a prey. If the cougar attacks, fight aggressively and try to stay on your feet, according to the Washington Department of Fish and Wildfire. ”Cougars have been driven away by people who fought back.” And those are some of the ways to avoid being attacked by a Cougar.
