On Monday, December 4th, Bullard had their annual Fall Sports Awards. This event is a way for the school to honor every fall sport and their athletes.

First, every team participating in the awards ceremony ( football, girls’ volleyball, girls’ tennis, girls’ golf, girls’ and boys’ water polo, and cross country) meet in the cafeteria. The first thing they honored was the people who got first team all-league this year. Then one at a time Brandon Gilbert, our athletic director, brings up every team individually so the crowd can see who is on the team. He announces some of each team’s individual awards, such as MVP or other important awards.

As a senior in his last fall awards banquet, it was very special to be honored by other teams and my teammates especially! I’m sure a majority of the seniors felt the same way. This part of the awards banquet doesn’t usually last long because at the end of this part, each team goes to a separate classroom so that the coach can hand out the rest of the awards (like scholar athletes and varsity letters).

By the end of that, the awards ceremony is over and everyone says their final goodbyes of the season to their coaches and take pictures with their friends. This part was very hard for the seniors on my team, not because they were sad, but because their parents were getting emotional; they know that this is the end for all of our water polo careers. That was very hard to handle, but instead of focusing on that, we all just realized we need to have a good time and reflect on our performance this season. This concluded the 2017 Fall Sports Awards.
