Young Kids And Social Media

Are you aware of the percentage of young children on social media? Approximately 38 percent of children under the age of 13, are exposed to the internet. Kids now are found on social media daily and partake in less productive activities. Younger kids shouldn’t be exposed to that much of social media at their age due to being able to get easily addicted and may discover the wrong things. Social media has both a negative and positive impact on people, however the negative effects are much more drastic. For example, younger children on social media are exposed to many different types of media which can cause mental health issues. In this article by the Cleveland Clinic, it says, “Too much time on social media apps can lead to an increase in body dissatisfaction, eating disorders and low self-esteem. While this is particularly concerning for teen girls, reports show that 46% of teens 13 to 17 years old said social media made them feel worse about their bodies. Younger kids on social media need to understand that there is certain consequences using social media due to some parents failing to monitor them. The youth should have a better understanding of monitoring the amount of time that’s spent on social media and the types of media they interact with.
